Justice Tujilane Rose Chizumila to Launch Two Books in Malawi: A Story of Resilience and Leadership.

Justice Tujilane Rose Chizumila to Launch Two Books in Malawi: A Story of Resilience and Leadership.

Honourable Justice Tujilane Rose Chizumila, Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, will launch two books, From a Refugee Girl to a Judge (Volume 1) and A Journey of Statelessness (Volume 2) on Friday, 24 April 2026 in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The two publications present a compelling account of her life journey, tracing her path from growing up as a refugee child to becoming a distinguished jurist serving at continental level. Through clear and personal storytelling, the books highlight the role of resilience, determination and access to opportunity in shaping her trajectory.

In From a Refugee Girl to a Judge (Volume 1), Honourable Justice Chizumila reflects on the experiences that shaped her early life and the steps that led her to break barriers and rise into leadership.

A Journey of Statelessness (Volume 2) further explores the complexities of identity, belonging and displacement, offering insight into challenges that continue to affect many across the continent and beyond.

At the core of the narrative is a powerful message:
“This is not a story of charity; it is a story of what becomes possible when opportunity meets resilience, when a single chance, combined with determination, can change not just one life, but the lives of many.”

Beyond a personal account, the books are intended to serve as a source of inspiration, particularly for young people, refugees and individuals facing difficult circumstances.

They underscore the importance of education, mentorship and supportive environments in unlocking human potential and enabling individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.

The book launch will also serve as a fundraising initiative in support of programmes under the Tujilane Chizumila Foundation, which focuses on advancing women and youth empowerment across Africa.

Through its work, the Foundation continues to promote access to education, leadership development and opportunities for vulnerable communities.

The event is expected to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, development partners, youth representatives and members of the public, to celebrate a story that resonates across borders and speaks to shared aspirations of dignity, opportunity and progress.
